Momservation: A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. ~Greek Proverb

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless with all the bad stuff going on in the world. So I’m always looking for the sweet spots in life to remind me that there is more good out there than bad.
Things like:
…a cool breeze on a warm summer day.
…catching butterflies with your kids.
…seeing a stranger help an elderly person put groceries in their car.
…eating dinner together as a family and laughing at dumb jokes.
…a front yard lemonade stand staffed by neighborhood kids.
When you shift your focus this way, the world lights up with all the sweet, wonderful things happening around us if we just look for it.
One of those sweet spots I recently discovered was Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation supported by Rita’s Italian Ice.
In 2006, Rita’s became a proud corporate partner of Alex’s, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for all childhood cancers. Named in honor of the late Alexandra “Alex” Scott, the Foundation has raised more than $75 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 375 research projects nationally.
Though Alex lost her fight with cancer, by deciding to make “lemonade out of lemons” she inspired tens of thousands of people to sell lemonade in her honor to fund the fight against childhood cancers.

A sick child thinking of other sick children instead of herself starting an amazing movement with a front yard lemonade stand—now that’s one of life’s sweet spots!
It also inspired me to want to help. And Rita’s made it easy as my family was visiting their Folsom location to try that week’s all-natural frozen drink (Florida Orange – yum!):
Each Rita’s location sells paper lemons to Rita’s guests for $1 each. Each Rita’s Guest is able to personalize his/her lemon and then post it on the store’s “Wall of Hope” to demonstrate the local community’s collective support. And did you know that over the past ten years, Rita’s has collectively raised more than $4.2 million for pediatric cancer research? They’ve now become a leading corporate fundraising partner for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Delicious frozen treats and a community philanthropist? Rita’s just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter.
