Beat the Heat with Rita’s Italian Ice!

Momservation: …and then God created ice and flavoring and the hot children and adults of summer rejoiced.

Rita's Ice2My family and I are always looking for ways to beat the heat during Sacramento summers—water parks, ice skating, indoor fun like bowling and laser tag. We even had an unofficial rule that every time it hits over 100 degrees we would get a frozen treat to help cool us off.

So for this last stretch of 100 degree days we sampled frozen treats around town until we hit on a new favorite: Rita’s Italian Ice!

We were just looking for a slushee or shaved ice type product when we discovered pictures of brightly colored yummy looking ice treats and Rita’s inviting red and green Italian décor inviting us into their Folsom location.

Rita's ice gelatiBut there was so much more to choose from at Rita’s! Besides their signature Italian Ice classic that puts the snow cone to shame they had 12 other yummy offerings from custard cookie sandwiches to Gelati’s to sugar free and All-Natural Italian Ice. With dozens of flavors served daily within 36 hours of mixing, many with real fruit, it was hard to choose!

One of the fun ways to solve this problem is their Ice Flight—four flavors in a four compartment container. They’ll even add a dollop of creamy frozen custard in the middle so you can create 50/50 bar type bites of deliciousness! Ritas Ice

My kids went straight for the Blendini where you combine the frozen custard, Italian Ice, and topping from choice of dozens. I wanted something a little more low calorie so I went for Rita’s All-Natural Italian Ice made with natural ingredients and Sugar-Free Italian Ice sweetened with Splenda. I did sneak the Cotton Candy flavor in my Ice Flight and it was actually my favorite! Grandma went with the frozen custard in the chocolate and nut-dipped waffle cone. All were delicious and value priced.

We’ll definitely be going back to Rita’s Italian Ice even when it doesn’t hit the 100 degree mark. With locations all over the US I was happy to have two locations in our Sacramento area: Rocklin and Folsom.

If you’d like to try out a Rita’s near you thanks to Momservations and Rita’s Italian Ice,  be the first to reply with this week’s Frozen Drink of the Week!
