Maybe These Are the Answers to Gun Violence

Momservation: The time is always right to do what’s right. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

As a writer and story teller it is hard to believe that I’m ever at a loss for words.

But this latest, disturbingly frequent new threshold in our nation’s increasingly violent history left me speechless and heartbroken—once again and inevitably.

I don’t pretend to know it all, but I know, in this gun-soaked and blood-stained country, something has to change.

I don’t know what the answer is or where we’ll find a solution or how we’ll motivate the change (if 20 slaughtered six year-olds on the eve of Christmas can’t do it, what can?).

When I feel so hopeless and helpless I seek out inspirational quotes, clinging to them like a piece of driftwood to get me through the storm. I find these words of guidance and wisdom a promising beacon—revelations certainly ascertained in the calm break of the clouds after riding out their own storms. Some are from ordinary people and some from extraordinary people, but all I believe through whom God must surely be speaking.

These are the people I want to follow. These are the lights I want to shine through. These are truths I want to be heard. This is the love I want to triumph. This is what I want our nation, our fellow Americans to believe in.

Not the blinding hate. Not destructive bitterness. Not the unescapable darkness. Not the hopeless resignation. Not name calling, finger pointing gridlock and blame.

We are better than this. Let’s come together and prove it. And maybe these words of inspiration and wisdom lead the way…
