It had been a long time. But it still got my blood pumping and the old familiar excitement for possibilities making the hair on my arms stand up.<\/p>\n<p>When the song aired in 1990, I believed it was my theme song and every time I heard it over the years I knew it was a promise of my destiny. I turned up the old Travis Tritt hit and sang every word with passion and feeling just as I always had:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>He said, &#8220;I&#8217;m gonna be somebody.<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nOne of these days I&#8217;m gonna break these chains.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m gonna be somebody someday.<br \/>\nYou can bet your hard earned dollar I will.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Im gonna be somebody by Travis Tritt\" width=\"843\" height=\"632\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DNIGbW03GVw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This time though, a wash of sadness tinged the words as I sang. It wasn\u2019t my theme song anymore. It was just a song.<\/p>\n<p>At 46, my youthful dreams of greatness as a writer had grown cold and I had accepted that I wasn\u2019t going to be somebody someday. The possibilities of youth had turned into midlife certainties. The desire to race down the road to see what my fabulous future held, was doing a jog-walk now. When had I become the little old lady in the slow lane with her blinker stuck on letting others pass me by?<\/p>\n<p>But as I sang along\u2014because it\u2019s still a damn good song\u2014I thought about what my life is compared to what I thought it would be.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, I realized I had it all wrong. Not my life, but the definition of what being somebody is. And the funny thing was, I had become somebody and I didn\u2019t even know it!<\/p>\n<p>I wasn\u2019t the best-selling author or had my books turned into movies making me a millionaire and household name. I was somebody better.<\/p>\n<p>I am the lucky wife of a big-hearted and generous man who loves me dearly and would do anything for me.<\/p>\n<p>I am the proud mother of two amazing kids who are the joy of my life and make me thank God every night for choosing me to be their mommy.<\/p>\n<p>I am a friend to an awesome group of people who love and accept me for who I am.<\/p>\n<p>I am a daughter who reaps the love of two wonderful parents and turns it into love for others.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16769\" src=\"https:\/\/momservations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/To-the-world-you-may-be-one-person-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I am a sister who is strong in the face of adversity and forgiving of others because she learned it from her big brother who refuses to let life knock him down.<\/p>\n<p>I am the granddaughter, niece, cousin and sister-in-law to family who inspire me to be a better person because they believe their lives are better for having me in it.<\/p>\n<p>I am a compassionate community member who will be there for you in your time of need.<\/p>\n<p>I am a teacher and a coach who has positively impacted young lives to a point that their parents still thank me to this day.<\/p>\n<p>I am a writer who if she never wrote another word would be content because of all the people who were moved enough to tell me that they just had to stop and let me know how much they enjoyed and appreciated something I had written.<\/p>\n<p>I am somebody. You can bet your hard earned dollar I am.
