{"id":16379,"date":"2017-02-14T17:13:32","date_gmt":"2017-02-15T01:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.momservations.com\/?p=16379"},"modified":"2017-02-14T17:13:32","modified_gmt":"2017-02-15T01:13:32","slug":"dont-tell-me-to-prove-my-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/momservations.com\/index.php\/2017\/02\/14\/dont-tell-me-to-prove-my-love\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Tell Me to Prove My Love"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Momservation: <\/strong>Save yourself the $7 on a Valentine\u2019s Day card and show me you love me by taking the garbage cans to the curb every week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u263a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u263a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u263a<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16380\" src=\"https:\/\/momservations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Valentines-Day-hate-300x282.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"282\" \/>I figured out why I don\u2019t like Valentine\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the youthful disappointment of way over-thinking whether to add \u201cI love you\u201d to Todd Blackwell\u2019s Valentine card in second grade only to get an unsigned Scooby Doo Valentine in return.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the teenage angst of hoping your crush was finally going to go for it on Valentine\u2019s Day and reveal he HAD been noticing you\u2014only to find out he\u2019s been noticing the party girl with the big boobs.<\/p>\n<p>Besides being surrounded by your roommates\u2019 bouquets from their boyfriends while you spend your evening home in your jammies with Dylan McKay and Kelly Taylor from 90210.<\/p>\n<p>Besides it being a Hallmark holiday that forces its way to the top of my over-loaded To Do List to make sure everyone from Nose-Picker Sally in Mrs. Tucker\u2019s class to dear, sweet Grandma Silveira have been notified through an over-priced-briefly-read card that we hope they have a very happy Valentine\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, I don\u2019t like Valentine\u2019s Day because I don\u2019t like people telling me what to do (just ask my husband).<\/p>\n<p><strong>I don\u2019t want<\/strong> to have to send a $7 card telling someone I love them on February 14. I do that every day of the damn year for those I really love.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I don\u2019t want<\/strong> a barometer of my love to be how special I can make one day of the year to be. Every day is Valentine\u2019s Day for my family because I cook, clean, do their laundry, grocery shopping, errands, and take care of most of their needs\u2014generally validating on a daily basis that I love them so much I will do anything for them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I don\u2019t wan<\/strong>t to be told that I must feel amorous and want to put on lingerie because it is Valentine\u2019s Day. I take care of my man. He\u2019s been riding the Love Train for 27 years. He would\u2019ve gotten off by now if I didn\u2019t know how to do romance the other 364 days of the year.<\/p>\n<p>So <strong>don\u2019t tell me<\/strong> today is the day I have to prove my love. Don\u2019t tell me this is the most romantic day of the year.
