{"id":13406,"date":"2014-11-18T11:31:21","date_gmt":"2014-11-18T19:31:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.momservations.com\/?p=13406"},"modified":"2014-11-18T11:31:21","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T19:31:21","slug":"a-hashtag-translator-for-six-second-nation-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/momservations.com\/index.php\/2014\/11\/18\/a-hashtag-translator-for-six-second-nation-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"#Busted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Momservation: <\/strong>If you\u2019re not lecturing your teens in six-second sound bites these days\u2014you\u2019re not getting through.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u263a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u263a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u263a<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13409\" src=\"https:\/\/momservations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/hastag.jpg\" alt=\"hastag\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" \/>One of my frequent mom-isms to my kids is: \u201cOh, that\u2019s right. I forgot you\u2019re part of six-second nation,\u201d in reference to their generation\u2019s attention span. I will then rephrase my long-winded request into something short and in their lingo like: \u201c#GoCleanYourRoomOrYouWillHaveNoPhone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This mom-ism was generated from my blog, <a href=\"https:\/\/momservations.com\/six-second-nation-2\/\">Six Second Nation<\/a>, pointing out that thanks to social media like Vine (that only allows videos to be six seconds long), Twitter (that only allows communication under 40 characters), and Snap Chat (that gives you up to 10 seconds to view a picture or video before it disappears), we\u2019ve created a generation of kids with the attention span of a goldfish.<\/p>\n<p>So now, all I have to do is say to my kids: \u201cSix-second nation\u201d and they know I\u2019m calling them out on giving me their full attention. It\u2019s my modern day \u201cI\u2019ll give you to the count of three\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I also use: \u201cBe present!\u201d Which is me warning them that they better put down their phones or they\u2019re going to get a lecture on life passing them by. Or the six-second nation version: #You\u2019reAboutToGetYourPhoneTakenAway.<\/p>\n<p>So for those of you who are still having problems communicating with your smart phone obsessed kids because you are rambling longer than six seconds\u2014turning your voice into the \u201cwhan-whan-whan-whan\u201d of the adults in a Charlie Brown cartoon\u2014reference the easy translator below to become fluent in Six-Second Nation-ese.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0What You\u2019re Trying to Say \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Six-Second Nation Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"319\">I caught you on your phone last night after bedtime, this is the third time I\u2019ve warned you about this.<\/td>\n<td width=\"319\">#ThirdStrike#PhoneNowChargesInTheKitchen<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"319\">I\u2019m glad we\u2019re spending this time together.
