Momservation: <\/b>It\u2019s never too late to water-down your expectations for yourself.<\/p>\n

It’s been a great year<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A new year dawns and I always have big expectations for myself. I don\u2019t do resolutions because I don\u2019t need broken resolutions to make me feel any worse about myself. But I do have quiet goals tucked away inside myself that I hope a shiny new year will motivate me to achieve.<\/p>\n

I just have to remember not to look in the rear-view at the year that just passed.<\/p>\n

Because if I see the trail of procrastination and missed opportunity behind me I might just say, \u201cAww, hell. Why do I bother?\u201d Then in my bitter disappointment grab a bag of Oreos and go for the next level on Candy Mania as my big goal instead.<\/p>\n

But this year I\u2019m taking a new tactic to keep me motivated for being my best possible self in 2014.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to spend the last day of 2013 doing those things I had meant to do but never got around to\u2014I\u2019m going to slide in under the wire before time expires so I can yell, \u201cYes! I did it!\u201d instead of \u201cAww, hell. Not again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course with this type of lowering the bar to meet your goals, you have to shoot for the easy ones to meet with success. But a success is a success none the less. (I should embroider that on a pillow!\u2014but let\u2019s post-date that idea for 2014). So here\u2019s what I think I can accomplish before midnight tonight:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Back-up the computer<\/b> (and be grateful that my luck didn\u2019t run out and a year\u2019s worth of work, pictures, and movies became non-existent)<\/li>\n
  • Empty my camera\u2019s memory card to the computer<\/b> (so I can take as many pictures as I want tonight celebrating New Year\u2019s Eve and not have to go back and decide which pictures I can delete for more room)<\/li>\n
  • Lose 5 pounds<\/b> (or weigh myself at the gym whose scale is 5 pounds off in my favor and pretend it\u2019s accurate)<\/li>\n
  • Honor the WASH ME written in the dirt on my car<\/b> (I can outsource this to the kids with a promise of letting them stay up to midnight\u2014which they won\u2019t be able to do anyway)<\/li>\n
  • Organize the closets <\/b>(or just move things around so I don\u2019t have to shut the door real quick before everything avalanches)<\/li>\n
  • Organize my pictures and movies <\/b>(we\u2019ll just say backing them up to an external hard-drive takes care of this)<\/li>\n
  • Clean the oven <\/b>(thank you self-cleaning oven)<\/li>\n
  • Plant some tulips that will come up in the spring <\/b>(translation: instead of being mad drop bulbs in the holes the dog dug in my flowerbed and consider it outsourcing)<\/li>\n
  • Change the smoke alarm batteries <\/b>(easy one to feel good about)<\/li>\n
  • Call my family and friends more often <\/b>(Calling at 10, 2, 5, and midnight to wish them Happy New Year should do it)<\/li>\n
  • Win some awards <\/b>(Best Mom Ever homemade Mother\u2019s Day and birthday cards: check)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    I\u2019d love to keep shootin\u2019 the sh** with you all, but I gotta get runnin\u2019 on finishing out a great 2013.<\/p>\n
