I need your help and advice. I have two very important questions that have been causing me sleepless nights and anxiety dreams about going to a Halloween party as Person Giving a Speech Naked and still losing the costume contest.<\/p>\n<p>Here they are:<\/p>\n<p><i>How old is too old to go Trick-or-Treating?<\/i><\/p>\n<p>and<\/p>\n<p><i>What should I be for Halloween?<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Actually, the first question isn\u2019t for me. It\u2019s for my kids (no\u2026really). I have a 7<sup>th<\/sup> grader and an 8<sup>th<\/sup> grader. Both gung-ho to go Trick-or-Treating, neither pausing for a moment to think they might be too old to pound the pavement for the time honored tradition of taking candy from strangers.<\/p>\n<p>I see no problem with it. Sure, try not to stand behind a crowd of kindergarteners, towering over them like you\u2019re hoping for a hand-out of vodka on the rocks. But as long as you\u2019re making an effort for a costume and being respectful\u2026why not? I\u2019d rather have them Trick-or-Treating with youthful abandon than at a party playing 10-Seconds in the Closet debating whether to slip someone the tongue.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, my kids\u2019 costumes barely count as effort: Wearing your football uniform to be a Football Player and wearing the outfit you wore to Taylor Swift to be a Cowgirl. But that is the natural evolvement of Halloween costumes as illustrated below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><i>Baby to toddler<\/i><\/b><i> <\/i><i>\u2192<\/i><i> Mom puts child in something adorable and warm bought 6 months before Halloween. Probably spends too much<\/i><\/li>\n<li><b><i>Toddler to school years <\/i><\/b><i>\u2192<\/i><i> Mom gives in to what child wants to be and fights with child to wear a coat over costume to stay warm. Grumbles about how much money is spent when they could\u2019ve been a hobo or gypsy for free like when she was a kid. <\/i><\/li>\n<li><b><i>Elementary to Junior High<\/i><\/b><i> <\/i><i>\u2192<\/i><i> Kids not happy with their costumes because Mom vetoed everything they really wanted to be as inappropriate. Definitely spends too much money at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spirithalloween.com\/\">Spirit Halloween store<\/a> trying to make everyone happy sending them out the door with \u201cFine! Freeze then!\u201d<\/i><\/li>\n<li><strong><i>Teen years <\/i><\/strong><i>\u2192<\/i><i> Kids do minimum effort for a costume for maximum candy haul. Zero dollars with a candy surcharge to Mom for letting you still Trick-or-Treat and she doesn\u2019t care what you wear as long as you clean up your mess<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So am I wrong here? At what age do you cut off teens from Trick-or-Treating and tell them they\u2019re literally stealing candy from babies? I know they usually wean themselves\u2014I was 14 and a freshman in high school when I finally felt lame trying to pull off sweats and a Clayton Valley High School sweatshirt as a cheerleader (and pretty much spent the night with my girlfriend waiting for our trick-or-treat partners John and Deana to quit kissing after every house). But what if kids don\u2019t wean themselves from easy free candy?<\/p>\n<p>Okay, now to my other pressing issue. What should Hubby and I be for Halloween? I\u2019ve collected a few ideas from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/momservations\/momservations-blog\/\">Pinterest<\/a> and put them below. What\u2019s your vote?<\/p>\n<p>Costume 1:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.snappypixels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/creative-halloween-costumes-made-for-couples-20.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Costume 2:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kelleher-international.com\/userfiles\/images\/2010%2010%20October\/outlet.jpg\" width=\"310\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Costume 3:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.snappypixels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/creative-halloween-costumes-made-for-couples-11.jpg\" width=\"358\" height=\"447\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Costume 4:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/media3.onsugar.com\/files\/2012\/10\/40\/1\/301\/3019466\/f3c6465d085d6c47_girls_gone_wild.xxxlarge_1\/i\/Girls-Gone-Wild.jpg\" width=\"508\" height=\"444\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hmmm, I guess I have a third question.
