Momservation: <\/b>If you have to ask where the line between naughty and nice is drawn, odds are it\u2019s already been stepped over.<\/h4>\n

\u263a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u263a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u263a<\/h4>\n

\"NaughtyThere\u2019s nothing like December to make your kids toe the line on being good.<\/h4>\n

What they have a tendency to forget, though, is there were eleven months prior that are eligible for review in the naughty vs. nice stats. A few weeks of making your bed nearly every day or brushing your teeth without being asked doesn\u2019t erase the time you deleted your sister\u2019s Instagram account or ate all the Twix out your brother\u2019s Halloween bag and blamed it on Dad.<\/h4>\n

Pointing out to the kids that their little halos are a bit tarnished here\u2019s the common response: \u201cBut that doesn\u2019t count! That was like forever ago!\u201d<\/h4>\n

Hey, save it for the judge kid. Just because you did the time for the crime doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s been expunged from the record. Just sayin\u2019.<\/i><\/h4>\n

Then there\u2019s a mad rush to point out all the good that\u2019s been done that should mitigate any bad that took place\u2014for which, by the way, they are very, very sorry.<\/h4>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t had any missed homework assignments!\u201d<\/h4>\n

Yeah, but you thought it was funny to hide your brother\u2019s science report and watch while he frantically searched the house thinking he\u2019d lost it.<\/i><\/h4>\n

\u201cI\u2019m always ready for school\u2014you\u2019ve never had to get mad at me for being late!\u201d<\/h4>\n

What about me always having to tell you to quit harassing your sister to tears every morning while she\u2019s trying to get ready?<\/i><\/h4>\n

\u201cI got Whitney\u2019s sweatshirt for her once when she forgot it!\u201d<\/h4>\n

Once.<\/i><\/h4>\n

I let Logan have all my Reese\u2019s Peanut Butter Cups from my Easter and Halloween candy!\u201d<\/h4>\n

You hate peanut butter.<\/i><\/h4>\n

When the kids finally realize I can probably pull out two bad for every good (that usually has an asterisk attached to it) there is a frantic mental tally trying to weigh the naughty vs. nice.<\/h4>\n

\u201cDoes that time I broke the candy dish count?”<\/h4>\n

Yep, I told you guys not to play ball in the house.<\/i><\/h4>\n

\u201cWhat about when I broke your favorite holiday decoration?\u201d<\/h4>\n

Nope, that was an accident.<\/i><\/h4>\n

\u201cPicking up Darby\u2019s dog poo?\u201d<\/h4>\n

You were paid. And you quit after a week.<\/i><\/h4>\n

\u201cBringing in the garbage cans?\u201d<\/h4>\n

You forget more than you remember.<\/i><\/h4>\n

I let the kids twist in the wind for a little while to get them back for all the times over the year I\u2019ve had to nag them, pick up after them, and had to count to ten while I found some patience.<\/h4>\n

But in the end I always assure them that Santa will be making a stop at our house, because by my calculations\u2014the scales tip nice.<\/h4>\n

Now let’s keep it that way and keep your hands to yourself.<\/h4>\n
