{"id":11903,"date":"2012-12-04T11:33:18","date_gmt":"2012-12-04T19:33:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/momservations.wordpress.com\/?p=11903"},"modified":"2012-12-04T11:33:18","modified_gmt":"2012-12-04T19:33:18","slug":"dust-bunny-on-the-shelf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/momservations.com\/index.php\/2012\/12\/04\/dust-bunny-on-the-shelf\/","title":{"rendered":"Dust Bunny on the Shelf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Momservation: <\/b>Christmas is the time of year when it\u2019s okay for parents to flat out lie in the name of tradition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u263a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u263a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u263a<\/p>\n<p>If Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram are any indication, parents everywhere are hedging their better-be-good-cause-Santa\u2019s-watching bets with this Elf on the Shelf craze.<\/p>\n<p>Because if you haven\u2019t already made your kid paranoid and neurotic that the big red guy may leave them toyless because he saw them pick their nose and eat it\u2014a creepy elf that moves around each night reporting back that they peed in the bathtub while co-bathing with their sister\u2014that should really do it.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, we\u2019re not doing the Elf on the Shelf around here because I think I\u2019ve messed my kids up enough already. Knowing that anything you do is fair game for a family blog or column has a tendency to make a kid watch their back (i.e: <a href=\"http:\/\/momservations.wordpress.com\/2009\/01\/05\/family-ear-wax-night\/\">Family Ear Wax Night<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/momservations.wordpress.com\/2010\/09\/14\/green-poo-what-to-do\/\">Green Poo What to Do<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>What we do have around here, though, is not a sentry of children, but a lurking bane for procrastinating working mothers. Like the Elf on the Shelf, it doesn\u2019t matter that it\u2019s cute and whimsical\u2014its intent to materialize unexpectedly to keep you in line is just plain creepy. And my be-good reminder doesn\u2019t just show up around Christmas. Oh no. My little \u201cfriend\u201d is year-round.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the Dust Bunny on the Shelf.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/momservations.wordpress.com\/2012\/12\/04\/dust-bunny-on-the-shelf\/dust-bunny\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11914\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11914 alignnone\" alt=\"Dust Bunny\" src=\"http:\/\/momservations.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/12\/dust-bunny.jpg?w=224\" height=\"300\" width=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yeah, it\u2019s a hamster wearing bunny ears, but don\u2019t let the cuteness fool you. This guy is evil.
