Specifically, Christmas. And by \u201cbit\u201d I mean Hubby had to build an extra room the size of a mother-in-law quarters in his shed to house all my decorations.<\/p>\n<p>(To get the true sense of where it all went out of control, click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidepublications.org\/images\/stories\/Publications\/2011%20Publications\/1211%20(Dec)\/IA_Dec_11_Digital%20Edition.pdf\">here<\/a> and continue to page 40, to read <strong><em>\u2018Tis the Season to Overdecorate<\/em><\/strong><em>,<\/em> my monthly Momservations\u00ae column.)<\/p>\n<p>I cannot resist a Christmas decoration. Especially if it\u2019s cute. I used to think I was buying them for my kids\u2019 delight, but at 10 and 12 they have ceased being delighted by anything less than an<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/ipad\/\"> iPad<\/a>, so it\u2019s just become a weak excuse now.<\/p>\n<p>Hubby has started to insist that for every new holiday decoration I buy, at least two older ones have to go. He refuses to have any of my junk touch his junk. At least in the shed, anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Each of my decorations seems to have special meaning, significance, or an attachment I just can\u2019t seem to relinquish though. Or I hate to admit I was wrong in wasting the money on it and can\u2019t let it go until it\u2019s been around an amount of time I feel is equal to its dollar value.<\/p>\n<p>Except one.<\/p>\n<p>This one:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11585\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11585\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/momservations.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/271.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11585\" title=\"Hallmark refrigerator snowman\" src=\"http:\/\/momservations.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/271.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11585\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is not as cute as it looks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It is a light activated snowman that talks to you every time you open the refrigerator door.<\/p>\n<p>I thought it would be hysterical.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, you do not realize how much you open and close a refrigerator door until you have something this annoying in there yapping at you to hurry up and close the door.<\/p>\n<p>There are only so many times you can open a refrigerator door and hear, \u201cIs it cool in here or is it just me?\u201d before you want to decapitate a snowman and remove its battery bowels.<\/p>\n<p>Why did I buy it? Honestly? Because the inside of my refrigerator is about the only place inside or outside of the house left undecorated. I bought it two years ago. It lasted a week before everyone was begging me to put it and them out of their misery. It never made it out of the box marked KITCHEN DECORATIONS last year and no one missed its <em>\u201cShut the Door<\/em>\u201d song to the tune of <em>\u201cUp on the Housetop<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year? I\u2019m thinking wrapping it up as a White Elephant gift seems an excellent way to recoup the $24.95 I spent on it.<\/p>\n<p>Now my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goantiques.com\/detail,hallmark-2009-christmas,2203736.html\">Hoops and Yoyo Naughty or Nice button<\/a>? Best $7.99 I ever spent.
