Not for me, not for the kids, not for a Gammy that\u2019s missing all the fabulous things these grandkids do on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<p>The day she leaves again always makes my heart ache like I need a hug from my mommy \u2013 except she just left.<\/p>\n<p>But while she\u2019s here \u2013 oh, the fun we have.<\/p>\n<p>We go to the movies and get the biggest popcorn and Icee that money can buy. Then we pour Junior Mints and Reese\u2019s Pieces into the popcorn and eat until we get stomach aches. The movie itself is simply a side note to excellent snacking.<\/p>\n<p>She tells stories about me when I was little that cracks the kids up, undermines my credibility, or just makes me sound like a big ding dong \u2013 my kids can\u2019t get enough. Actual chicken pieces have shot out of someone\u2019s nose in snorted laughter much to a brother\u2019s disgusted delight.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11253\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11253\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/momservations.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/02\/gammy-and-kids-at-river.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11253\" title=\"Gammy and kids at river\" src=\"http:\/\/momservations.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/02\/gammy-and-kids-at-river.jpg?w=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11253\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">At the American River with Gammy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We take the dog on long walks while the kids chatter away, filling her in on every detail of their lives so far, and she never looks bored or disinterested. She learns about the Grumpy Guy neighbor, gets to see their cool fort at the dirt lot and all the treasures they\u2019ve found discarded in the creek, and she gets to delight in the neighborhood tulips that the kids tell her popped up just in time for her to see.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll hop on a bike and ride with the kids to take pictures of pretty flowers so she can teach them how to watercolor with the paints she brought.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll laugh until tears stream down our faces over Logan running, tripping and sliding on his face, salt packets all around him on the soft carpet of the movie theatre; and over our favorite lines from movies (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tYv2lHO7xSo\">Donkey: \u201cAnd in the morning,\u00a0I&#8217;m makin&#8217;\u00a0<\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tYv2lHO7xSo\">WAFFLES<\/a>!\u201d <\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cmCFT0qxzb8\">Dory: \u201cHey, look. \u2018Esc-a-pay\u2019. I wonder what that means? That&#8217;s funny, it&#8217;s spelled just like the word &#8220;escape.&#8221;)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll walk with the kids to Starbucks in the morning and everyone gets Venti hot chocolate with extra whip.<\/p>\n<p>Or we\u2019ll just sit in silence, in our jammies, while reading the paper or watching TV and just quietly relish each other\u2019s company.<\/p>\n<p>It really doesn\u2019t matter what we do.
